Hi,

There are many products available to generate synthesized sitar sounds, unfortunately most require that you actually understand how to play the instrument, the rest are basically synthesisers that you plug a guitar in to and it generates harmonics and over tones that sound something like a sitar but most sound like the creator never actually listened to the instrument as played by Ravi Shankar.  Some of the loops that are available are real sitar players and sound very good but their functionality in a Music Maker composition is limited.

There are some hardware products that are available and the expensive ones sound pretty good but the realistically prices ones for the most part sound pathetic.  I like the sound of the instrument but have no clue how to play it, so I don't use that sound in my material at this point.  If you find one, please let me know, and if you know where to find a decent tabla synthesizer I would love to know where I could locate it.

My family background is not from India, I just really like the sound of the instruments used in some of the music from India.  There are a few people on this froum whose background is from India, so hopefully one will have more information on something that can actually generate a realistic sound of the instrument at a reasonable price.

Good Luck,

George

@nihon94 and ronlamee,

Nihon94 this is one of the best if not the best sitar sounds I have heard so far, it also sounds like the tabla instrument is included.  Where did you get this and how much does it cost.

@ronlamee, I am not trying to hijack your post, but I have checked many sitar products on the web and this one sound like the creator actually understands the instrument way more than most.

Tried Smartsmurf's "Syntar" VST and it's pretty darned good--thanks!  And it's FREE!

Nihon, if you could remember your settings, I'd like to play with them, too.

Gandjcarr, no worries.  You really ought to check out Smurf's vst4free site, as it has tablas, too.
